Whales and haircuts

No, whales and haircuts normally don't got together, but they do when you go to the aquarium one weekend and get your first haircut the next. Here are the pictures!

Waiting for the Beluga whales...then turning to check out all the cameras that appear when the whales swim by.

Name that fish...

Sure, dad...a big white whale...but did you see mom? She's got the camera out.

One

It's hard to believe, but you are one. One whole, entire year. One whole, entire, way too fast year. This weekend, we spent some time reflecting on the road this last year has taken us down and thinking about where we will go next. Just tonight we turned and looked at you in the backseat of the car and said, "when did he grow up?" You're doing more walking (although we still haven't managed to get it on video), you're trying to say so much and you still spend most of your time laughing and smiling. Thank you for being such a joy, for changing our lives and for giving so much love. We thank God for you each and every day. What rich blessings we have been given. You are our everything and we love you.

Happy Birthday, little man.

Our boy...

He's growing up and it amazes me what he figures out and learns each day. Here are some of the things he's been up to.

One day last week, Dad had to call mom from the car on the way to daycare and tell her to make another bottle for George and bring it to daycare on her way to work. Why? Because our boy had reached into the bag next to his car seat, whipped out one of his bottles, popped the cap and tipped it back. He apparently laughed quite a bit (with milk drooling down his chin) when dad went to get him out of the car after they arrived at the daycare.

One of the funniest things lately is "stinky feet." All you have to do is sniff George's feet and say, "Whew! Stinky feet!" and he will laugh until he cries. Why is it so funny? We don't know. How long will it continue to be funny? Who knows. Something else that's funny...the words "green beans." Yes...as in the vegetable. One of George's favorites. But also one of the funniest words around when dad says it in his special way.

"Dog" and "cat." These are two words we are working on. George likes to point to them in one of his books and say something like "Gog" and "Ka." Ok...so it's not really the words, but he gets it and he's trying. This is in addition to "mama", "dada" and every so often "bye bye."

Today, mommy taught George to "gimme five." Seems that's a pretty funny game too. Not as funny as "stinky feet" but at least worth a giggle or two. We think he is also starting to learn to give kisses. Or at least George's version. In mommy's opinion, they are a little like wet dog kisses right now, but we're sure eventually they will involve a lot less drool. But drool or no drool, we will enjoy every kiss we can get from our little man.

Piano Man

George is not only refusing to walk solo for the camera...he's refusing to do it much at all. We will post walking as soon as we can. In the meantime, here is George, our piano man.

Wait for it...wait for it...

I promise...it's coming. What is it? It's a video of George walking solo! Yes, George took his first solo steps!!!!! Of course it was in the waiting room of the doctor's office on Monday, so mommy didn't have a camera ready. But, we have witnesses. He performed his trick again for all the nurses once we went back to the room. Sadly, he has not felt the need to do it for us here at home. But, I'm sure he will eventually, and when he does, we will do our best to get it on film for all his adoring fans.

In the meantime, I've added some tunes to the blog. Ok...it's just one song, but it's one of George's favorites. This is the song we play whenever George gets upset riding in the car. Sometimes it just calms him, sometimes he gets so excited he dances and sings along. Either way, he loves it. I guess it's just the beat? So, enjoy George's "happy song" as I like to call it. The rest of the world calls it "Our Song" by Taylor Swift.
